The picture is not mine, but the idea is; in ‘06 I was attending UCSC and lived one block from the saturn cafe. Many a drunken night we ended up at Saturn and I came to the same crossroads - their nachos were great, but the chips were mediocre. The seasoned fries were transcendent but only came w\ garlic, cheese or chili cheese. I could try and eat both, but my guts would hate me. Then, one night, I had a vision that changed my life forever: NACHO FRIES. The kitchen made them, and they were unreal. It became a weekly staple of my diet. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo and guacamole’s return to its rightful place in the limelight, we asked Guactacular organizer and popular New York blog &lt;a href="http://nachosny.com/"&gt;Nachos NY&lt;/a&gt; to share their perfect Cinco de Mayo…&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;NOTE: &lt;/strong&gt;Click on the links to see where to find the foods near you!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Start the day off right, with crazy heartburn and a happy tummy. Instead of going for your regular &lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/explore#/loc/Anywhere/desc/breakfast%20sandwich/sort/best/"&gt;breakfast sandwich&lt;/a&gt;, try this: egg, chorizo, cheddar and jalapeño torta with some chipotle mayo.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;After a heavy breakfast you may need to take it easy. Cozy up with a hearty &lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/explore#/loc/Anywhere/desc/chicken%20tortilla%20soup/sort/best/"&gt;chicken tortilla soup&lt;/a&gt; and wash it down with a &lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/explore#/loc/Anywhere/desc/mexican%20coke/sort/best/"&gt;Mexican Coke&lt;/a&gt; – Coca Cola made from real sugar cane. Squeeze a lime in there, you won’t be sorry.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Disregard the hours between lunch until the end of work day and we’re on to happy hour! After a hard day’s work, a &lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/reviews/149582"&gt;jalapeño margarita&lt;/a&gt; is in order. Infuse tequila with sliced jalapeños for an added kick. The restaurant &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/places/38529-el-maguey-latuna-new-york"&gt;El Maguey y la Tuna&lt;/a&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;on the Lower East Side shakes up a margarita so spicy, it makes us sweat.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Over beverages, &lt;strong&gt;FEAST ON &lt;a href="http://www.foodspotting.com/explore#/loc/Anywhere/desc/nachos/sort/best/"&gt;NACHOS&lt;/a&gt;!&lt;/strong&gt; Whether you make them at home or spend the night at your favorite taqueria, nachos are a must. If you’re making them at home, the trick is to layer chips and cheese multiple times. Use a mild cheddar (milder cheddars melt better than sharp) and for the love of God, skip the iceberg lettuce. Nachos are the perfect food to share with friends and will serve as a good base for whatever alcohol-related debauchery you plan for the evening.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;For dessert, enjoy a cupcake from &lt;a href="http://robicellis.tumblr.com/"&gt;Robicelli’s&lt;/a&gt;. This year they have one of our favorites for Cinco de Mayo, the &lt;strong&gt;Abuelita&lt;/strong&gt;, a Mexican chocolate cake, cajeta buttercream, ground Abuelita chocolate. Cajeta is goats milk caramel and is the perfect way to top off Cinco de Mayo 2011.&lt;/p&gt;
